The BP4 tower development at 25 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, is a 23-storey tower encompassing 530,000 sq. ft. of high-quality commercial space, designed to achieve an "Excellent" BREEAM rating.
To ensure the safety and functionality of emergency systems, the tower required robust cable restraint solutions, particularly for FP (fire protection) rated cables.
Without proper cable restraint, there were clear risks, including the loss of vital services and the potential hazard of live cables falling during emergencies.
Phoenix Cable Cleats:
Ellis, a UK-based manufacturer, developed the Phoenix range of cable cleats in 2011, in collaboration with Exova Warringtonfire, BRE, and ETS.
The Phoenix cleats, constructed from 316L stainless steel, were specifically designed for installation with FP-rated cables, ensuring fire resistance and corrosion resistance.
Specified by Hilson Moran through Ellis' UK distributor, ETS Cable Components, and installed by electrical contractor, Phoenix ME Limited.
Fire Performance Tests:
Prior to launch, the Phoenix range underwent rigorous fire performance tests, including exposure to fire, impact, and water spray.
These tests ensured that the Phoenix cleats offer fire protection equivalent to the cables they are designed to secure.
Critical Importance:
Given the stature of the BP4 tower as a 130-meter, 23-storey, 530,000 sq. ft. development in a prime London business district, ensuring the highest quality products for emergency system protection was imperative.
The use of Phoenix Cable Cleats was not just a choice but an absolute necessity to safeguard the tower's occupants and infrastructure during emergencies.
