A high-voltage cable runs across the fjord between Sotra and Drotningsvik in Bergen West. The high-voltage cable is located in the middle of the road of the new suspension bridge in Sotrasambandet – designed to improve transport links with a new four-lane road.
Part of the project requires the cables to be installed in tunnels with very tight bend radii and limited access.
The use of conventional cable cleats was not possible.
Ellis had already developed the Cable Guide Clamp for an offshore project with similar build constraints.
With minimal adaptations the Cable Guide Clamp was able to be installed, allowing the cables to pulled into position, through the low-friction surface of the clamps. Once in position the lid of the cleat is removed, a pad added and the cable is then securely clamped in position.
