The Brightling Gypsum Mine in East Sussex had a number of challenges around holding power and communication cables in the mine.
The undulating nature of the wall and ceiling, as well as the corrosive nature of the mine environment, meant that a single cable cleat solution was not possible.
The Ellis team reviewed each area where a cable-holding solution was required.
Where possible an off-the-shelf cable hanger solution was suggested.
A bespoke solution was created, for locations where a standard design was not possible.
3D CAD models were drawn up and checked for strength with a combination of hand calculations and FEA before manufacturing drawings were produced.
The steel parts were hot dip galvanised and then powder coated to ensure long-term corrosion resistance. Further tests took place at Ellis in-house test laboratory to ensure all safety factors were adhered to.
